Rising Star Consulting, in connection with our partner Ceridian and powered by Sterling, has the capability to verify social security numbers as well as to locate additional addresses and aliases instantaneously through Web Direct. In addition to its usefulness for verifying the identity of the applicant, the Social Security Trace can also provide information invaluable to the conducting of the criminal background check.

Via the integration, Web Direct can be set up to automatically conduct criminal background checks based on the address history provided by the social security trace. It is recommended that our clients conduct a criminal conviction history search utilizing all addresses derived from the Social Security Trace representing the applicant’s residences for the prior 7-years. This measure would prevent the applicant from concealing previous addresses for the purpose of concealing a criminal record.

The information also indicates characteristics and/or irregularities such as:

1. Numbers issued to mail box numbers or telephone answering services addresses
2. Date of issuance and expiration, which may reflect fraudulent use. An expired number may denote that the original recipient is deceased.
3. The current and other known or previous addresses associated with that SSN
4. Other names used by the individual

In the event that a trace should show no record of the applicant, Sterling will contact the Social Security Administration to verify the Social Security number and communicate the results back to the client.
